A note on Diabetes:

  • As stated, diabetes is a disease of insulin, a hormone your body needs to convert sugars, starches and other foods into energy. When your body becomes insulin resistant, the path to diabetes begins.

  • Insulin has three main functions in your body. They are:

    • Help muscle, fat and liver cells absorb glucose.

    • Stimulate liver and muscle tissue to store excess glucose.

    • Lower blood glucose levels by reducing glucose production in the liver.

  • The more your glucose levels rise, the more insulin your pancreas will release, and the more that will get stored.

  • Lowering your insulin levels may add years to your life. The opposite is also true.

  • Over time, as your cells are exposed to excess insulin, they’re going to become more insulin resistant. Meaning, it will take more insulin to get the job done.

  • The more insulin you take, the more insulin resistant you will become. Therefore, the more you can regulate your blood sugar and insulin through diet, the less you may need to rely on insulin.
