Edible Paleo Chocolate Chip Cookie Dough
Am I the only one who thinks cookie dough is better than the cookie itself? I remember growing up and getting tubs of cookie dough from school fundraisers and just going to town on it (no wonder I got health issues)!
Why is cookie dough bad to eat?
The narrative is that eating raw eggs in cookie dough will give you salmonella and it contains raw flour which has other harmful bacteria. But is this true? In our modern society where it takes a very long time for food to get from A to B, bacteria and pathogens are more prevalent. So in fact, it is wise to not eat regular cookie dough. But we can make some exceptions in the cases where cookie dough is made with fresh ingredients and not using flour at all!
In all actuality, raw gluten free cookie dough with free range pastured eggs (not from the grocery store) is actually perfectly fine to eat! Raw egg yolk contains essential B vitamins, essential fatty acids, choline, essential proteins, and minerals like zinc in their most digestible forms. During the GAPS diet and other gut healing practices, raw egg yolks are an essential part of gut healing and providing the nutrients missing to heal. However, not everyone has access to fresh eggs from the chicken roost.
So, for my modern foodies and fellow health-seeking gurus, I give you my PALEO EDIBLE CHOCOLATE CHIP COOKIE DOUGH RECIPE (egg free, dairy free, gluten free). Enjoy!
